A Queer Museum: previous activities since early 2024

The following is a list of activities that have been initiated or hosted by A Queer Museum since March 2024.

Feb 2024: Nhung and Đinh Thảo Linh visited many queer and feminist archives in Frankfurt and Berlin, including Schwules Museum, the Feminist Archive, the Lesbian Library and Archive, the Museum of European Culture (a viewing of an exhibition on menstruation), and initiatives by BIPOC in Berlin, including Serian, Korean, and Filipino artists and activists (for details, see the list on our website)

March 2024:

28/3: Opening some boxes containing items collected by Nhung and Nguyễn Bằng Giang. A collec/tion of essays regarding activism, collected in an independently published book called Reflection/ Phản chiếu, was discussed. 28 of March is also the first day we introduced the physical AMQ to the public.

April 2024:

5/4: Potluck party, in which participants brought food and texts concerning the relationship between gender and food. The highlight of the party was the reflection on the gender dynamics and critique of the film The Taste of Things from a gender lens by curator Bùi Kim Đĩnh

21/4: “No1: Mapping Desir”a solo sex workshop, facilitated by Đinh Nhung and a certified Sex Coach, Minh Ngọc, founder of Intivibe & Green Lady Vietnam.

May 2024:

18/5:

-         From 10:00 - 19:00 : “Queer market: Queer Girls - Queer Boys”- a craft and art  mini market

-         From 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.: Queer movie screening: “How to have s.egg?” (2023, Molly Manning Walker)

 19/5:

-         From 10:00 - 19:00: “Queer market: Queer Girls - Queer Boys”

-         From 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.: Discussion | Ban Lon 2G: "Gái Tính Giái Tính" (“Define & Deconstruct”), with Dr. Khuất Thu Hồng, curator Bùi Kim Đĩnh, and Đinh Nhung. Facilitated by Chu Thanh Hà, found of It’s T time.

25/5:

From 2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m: A panel discussion with Nguyễn Bằng Giang (den-dau), Lê Hoàng Hải, Đoàn Thanh Tùng (DNXH Hải Đăng) and Nguyễn Công Thành (WECARE) about addictions, discourses and interventions

26/5:  From 2:30 pm-9:00 pm: a fundraising, project management, and writing proposal workshop by Bùi Kim Đĩnh.

June 2024:

14/6, From 6-9 pm: film screening and discussion of the Asexual community

22-23/6: Queer markets- Ngày hội Thu Dam

22/6:

-         from 2 pm-6 pm : Nứng nửng nừng nưng workshop: sharing a collection of textual as well as moving images related to desire by female and queer writers and artists in Vietnam

-         From 9 pm-midnight: full moon ceremony led by Damien Võ

23/6: 2-6 pm: performance mini-fest “Whatever you want to do” with the participation of Lê Đình Phong, Queen Vũ, Cát Nguyên, Thảo Bùi, Nguyễn Bằng Giang, Nguyễn Thanh Tâm and Đinh Nhung.

July 2024:

28/7: Screening of Quểotica (queer and erotica) moving images and films by queer directors, including Trương Minh Quý, Oten Moten, Lạc Hoàng, and Jackie Trần -Newton (Nguyễn Tân Hoàng).

August 2024:

4/8-18/8: sending an open call to anyone interested in the making of queer and feminist archives in Việt Nam.

6/8: a Lecture and talk by Võ Quốc Anh with facilitation from Đinh Thảo Linh: Sexuality beyond consent.

18/8: Full Moon Ceremony, facilitated by Damien Võ

23/8: Making A Queer Museum at Nổ Cái Bùm- a contemporary artist-run festival in Đà Nẵng

25/8: Vogue night with Ballroom Việt Nam

September

1/9: Workshop 01 :: Case studies about Queer and Feminist Archives

-         Morning (Open to the public): 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Presentations on Queer and Feminist Archiving Projects in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Germany by Đinh Nhung, Sidhi, and Thảo Hồ respectively.

-         Afternoon (For project members and an interested public): 1:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Discussions, exploration, and analysis of Queer and Feminist archives from materials found at the Goethe Institute Library in Hanoi (56-58 Nguyễn Thái Học, Ba Đình, Hanoi), Manzi Gallery at Manzi Art Space & Cafe (14 Phan Huy Ích, Ba Đình, Hanoi), and A Queer Museum (103 Ngọc Lâm, Long Biên, Hanoi).

8/9: The first online meeting of the network

15/9: offline meeting of the people in the network at A Queer Museum

22/9: Offline meeting at the library of the Goethe Institute, a beginning of a discussion about how to make everyone feel safe to express themselves. This is the first time that care practice in the community space, especially A Queer Museum was mentioned.

29/9: the network’s meeting at ba-bau AIR

October: two (Nhung and Thảo Linh) meetings online with the following individuals, one person at a time:

Chuột Gốm, Nguyệt, Hiệp, Giang, Linh Ngọc, Lâm Hoà, Thu Anh, Tồ Tít, Việt D, Đầu Cá, and Hà Thanh.

11/10: screening Hung Huc by Jo Ngo (DIR, editor), Thao Bui (performance artist) and Dinh Nhung (producer). The work was made for screening at the South East Queer cultural festival 2.0.

26/10: Tàng Quể các-queer library

 

November

19-24: Caring archive week, including:

19/11: 6-9 pm: talk, screening, and performance: Drag King performance and the making of a lesbian kungfu musical film.

20/11: workshops:

-         discussion, writing and collage to explore relationships without breasts: Nguyễn Bằng Giang, Đỗ Anh Khôi, and Chu Thanh Hà (while three are female born at birth (AFAB), Giang identified as gender fluid, Khôi and Hà are transmen. Three of them experienced painful periods of gender disphoria, but the conversation was opened to all participants with majority are AFAB).

-         video archival workshop with J Triangular and An-An Chen

21/11: Drag King experience workshop: all AFAB at Babau-Air with the facilitation by dragster Yassper, assisted by Đỗ Anh Khôi and J Triangular.

22/11: Reading and writing archive, featuring the facilitation of Beatrix Pang from Hong Kong (Queer read library) and Elise Luong from Woman Room to Read

23/11: film screening of Lesbian Factory and Popcorn Rainbow -- two documentary films

24/11: Public workshop: Case studies about Queer and Feminist Archives in Hong Kong (Queer Read Library) and Germany (Lesbian Library and Archive).

December

4/12: workshop Pleasure Mindset

A continuing meeting 2-1 (Thảo Linh and Nhung with one participant at a time). These participants have been collecting materials to a significant extent.

27, 28/12: Popup zine design workshop with Linh Meow for the newbies (mostly participants from our archive network)

January 2025:

12/1: open studio within the group: Nguyễn Vũ Hiệp, Chuột Gốm, Đầu Cá, Linh Ngọc, Minerva- Mi

19/1: presentations in a group: Lâm Hoà, Việt Vũ, Bằng Giang, Tồ Tít, Thu Anh (Yu), Hương Nguyễn

24/1: Hair There!!! Workshop: facilitated by Tee (Vietnamese French queer traveler) with the assistence of Đinh Nhung. We will talk about being queer and hair as well as sharing stories, tips related to hair care or expressing our queerness through hair.

 

February 2025:

15-16 Feb: public showcases at the Goethe institute Hanoi
